Use Equalization Tank in Wastewater Treatment Before Releasing
Equalization (EQ) tanks can be a great asset in pollution control in breweries. EQ tanks can be utilized in breweries to adjust the pH, temperature, and flow rate of the wastewater. This way, the use of an EQ tank assists the facility in meeting the required standards for wastewater discharge. To regulate the pH value, chemicals are added to the EQ tank. The usage of an EQ tank ensures that the chemicals to be used are accurately measured and hence the risk of using excess chemicals and consequently using a lot of money to treat the chemicals is reduced. It helps in the proper handling and accountability of the chemicals that are used to modify the wastewater to meet standards.
For flow regulation, the EQ tank is used to hold the wastewater that will later be discharged in a regulated manner to meet the required legal requirements. i.e. EQ tanks hold more concentrated wastewater during times of high production and discharge it at a steady pace thereby not overloading the local wastewater treatment plant and helping to optimize the downstream treatment processes. This way, EQ tanks assist breweries in compliance with discharge regulations, thus, preventing possible fines and penalties, which, in turn, saves money for the brewery and is good for the environment. Therefore, EQ tanks are efficient and useful in the efforts to prevent pollution, thus enabling breweries to reduce the consequences of their pollution on the environment by containing wastewater.
A case study showed that the use of an EQ tank saved 16,600 lbs of caustic soda and 9,400 lbs of sulfuric acid annually and $8,400 of expenses per year.
