Use of Supplier Sustainability Scorecard
A supplier Sustainability scorecard is a tool businesses use to evaluate and monitor their suppliers' sustainability performance. Industries utilize this scorecard to research the health effects of the chemicals in the materials they procure. Additionally, the scorecard assesses suppliers’ engagement in identifying hazardous chemicals in their products that pose risks to users and workers and in finding and promoting safer alternatives. The scorecard requires suppliers to answer specific questions about certain chemicals, internal chemical policies, and other social and environmental practices.
This information helps facilities understand the potential risks associated with the supplies they procure and assess their compliance with chemical exposure regulations. For instance, a health plan company implemented this system to evaluate the chemicals in medical products and their risks to patients and workers. This enabled them to avoid using harmful chemicals in their supplies.
